Elections, elections, all the elections!
Join Helen & Lorenzo as they bring the best of their electoral systems nerdery to a Chatham House Zoom call near you
Those of you who subscribe to both
and me would know he’s currently making his way around central Europe, eating scrummy food and visiting gorgeous places. This means, for the first time, we’ll be able to hold a Chatham House Zoom conversation for paid subscribers at the civilised time of 5 pm (BST) on Saturday July 6th. You North Americans, now is the time to “get in” as Scots say!
2024 is an unusual year for its large number of elections around the world, and that’s before we get to a political earthquake like yesterday’s in the UK. We’ll also be discussing Lorenzo’s travels and two recent pieces of mine.
The first one appeared for Law & Liberty (Liberty Fund) and covered J. K. Rowling’s battle against Police Scotland’s Hate Monster and SNP trans lunacy more widely. The second was a longread here on the relationship between modern leftism (both liberal and progressive) and what I’ve come to call “the Omnicause”. Hadley Freeman, for her part, calls it “the fatberg of activism”. I speak, of course, of Israel-Palestine.
The call will be unrecorded and run on Chatham House lines. No information from or quotation of—and this doesn’t just apply to Lorenzo or me—is to be attributed to any participant in the call, outside the call.
There’s 20 per cent discount on an annual subscription available to people who sign up before close of play on Saturday, 6th July. I realise this timing includes a period after the Zoom call but it’s not possible to offer a discount in less than daily increments. Because Lorenzo is travelling for work reasons, the call will go for one-and-a-half hours—he has other commitments later in the evening.
I’ll send the Zoom link out to paid subscribers on Saturday morning, a few hours before the call.
