Evolution is usually pretty brutal. See Chagnon’s study of the Yanomami tribe. If you define “well function” as survival adaptations, then the scientific evidence is that humans evolved the capacity to be both “nasty” and “nice” to those outside or inside their kinship group (gene pool).
